Star Wars THX Trilogy on VHS

Release Date: August 29, 1995
Retail Price: $60 set (tapes sold separately for $25 each)
Trailers/Extras: THX Trilogy trailer before each film

Released in 1995, retailing for around $60 (the tapes could also be bought separetely for $25 each), this set was being advertised as the last time the unaltered trilogy would ever be availible on home video. The Pan & Scan set consisted of a rather unelaborate 5-sided slipcover, holding the three tapes side by side so that the spines of each would be visible. The box art was finally given a redesign, leading to this set being nicknamed the "Faces" trilogy, as the box for each film features about 3/4 of a face of a different character (ANH = Darth Vader, ESB = Stormtrooper, ROTJ = Yoda). The set also came with a "Star Wars Savings Booklet," which included coupons towards Star Wars action figures, models, etc. The cassette labels remained green/blue/white. On the back of the box was another comment from George Lucas.

Star Wars THX Widescreen Trilogy on VHS

Release Date: August 29, 1995
Retail Price: $49.98 set (tapes sold separately for $19.98 each)
Trailers/Extras: THX Trilogy trailer before each film

The set was also availible in Letterboxed format. As if putting "Widescreen" on the box itself wasn't enough, they decided to lay the cassettes side by side for the widescreen release, resulting in a very wide box. The box art is exactly the same as the Pan & Scan release, save for the addition of a "Widescreen Edition" banner accross the top of each box. This set also contains the "Star Wars Saving Booklet" mentioned above.

As far as I know, there were two types of boxes that this set came in. Some boxes slid out sideways, revealing all of the cassettes in a slant-cut inner box (left), the other box simply had a lift-off top, revealing all of the cassettes laying side by side in the base of the box (right).

From Star Wars to Jedi Documentary Re-release

Along with the newly remastered films, Lucasfilms also re-released the 65 minute documentary From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga. This documentary was originally released in 1989 and was also included in the
1992 Widescreen Collector's Edition. Each release contains the same video transfer, but the box art has been changed over the years to match up with the rest of the saga. Oddly, the documentary wasn't included with eithe the Pan & Scan or Letterboxed editions of the THX Trilogy and was only availible to be purchased separately (price unknown). Released in Pan & Scan only.

The Making of Star Wars Documentary Re-release

Another documentary re-release for the THX remasters. I can't really comment on this release, as I've never seen the documentary and do not have a copy of it in my possession. Any information would be appreciated until I get a copy in my possession. As far as I know, it's just a repackaging of the original 1982 release with new trailers. Again, this was not included in either of the THX sets and was only availible separately (price unknown). Released in Pan & Scan only.
