The 2006 DVD release of A New Hope consisted of 2 discs, containing both the 2004 enhanced "Special Edition" cut of the film, as well as the 1977 "Theatrical Version" of the film. The 1993 "Definitive Collection" Laserdisc master was used for the Bonus Disc transfers. The set was released with the enhanced cut of the film in both Pan & Scan (blue) and Anamorphic Widescreen (gold) formats, although the Bonus Disc featured a Letterboxed presentation of the "Theatrical Version" in both cases.

Each of the 2006 DVD releases came with a pamphlet insert, advertising the individual "Limited Edition" releases of the Original Trilogy, as well as outlining the contents of the bonus disc. The pamphlet also featured the chapter listing for it's respective film (same as 2004 release).

The main disc in the set is virtually identical to the 2004 Original Trilogy Box Set release. Although the copyright date is updated to 2006 on the label side of the disc, you can alternate the 2004 and 2006 DVDs in a DVD player and have the player pick up where you left off in both cases.
